Why textured hair benefits
Curly and coily hair is naturally drier at the ends because sebum travels down the strand slowly, while the scalp itself can carry heavy buildup from oils, butters, gels and long-worn protective styles. That combination is precisely what a head spa is designed to address: clear the scalp, then put moisture back where it is needed.
What to ask before you book
- How is detangling handled, sectioned, with conditioner, fingers or wide tooth?
- Will the finishing treatment be moisture-weighted rather than a stripping detox?
- What does the finish look like, blow dried smooth, diffused, or left to your own styling?
- If you wear braids, locs or extensions, can the treatment be adapted? Say so when you book.
Between visits
Rinse more thoroughly than feels necessary, lighten up on dry shampoo and heavy root products, and massage the scalp for two minutes in the shower. Take down protective styles on schedule, most scalp complaints we see come from styles worn a few weeks too long.
At The Temple
We read the scalp first and choose detox or hydration accordingly, and we discuss the drying and finish with you before the ritual starts. The Restoration ($155) is the usual pick for dry or heat-styled textured hair; The Purification ($125) if buildup or flaking is the main issue. Tell us about braids, locs or extensions when you book so we allow the right time.
